Ayindisa Woodcarving Group

Ayindisa woodcarving group is headed by Peter Dramani, who maintains the professional name of Dagando, meaning, "You are a man," is a talented drum maker and player from Bolgatanga, in the Northeastern region of Ghana.

The skilled craftsmen of the Ayindisa Woodcarving Group all have various roles and work together as one unit. The group is divided into carvers, gugaas (sanders) and polishers. Each function is vital and an art form in itself. The woodcarvings represent the various and diverse tribes of Ghana, each with their own spiritual and decorative meaning.

All of Ayindisa’s woodcarvings are hand carved by artisans in Ghana from ebony or mahogany wood. These are the highest quality woods in West Africa. Ebony is a deep black and heavy wood while mahogany is relatively lighter one revealing the elegant and polished grain of the wood.

Ghanaian woodcarvings are renowned for adding home décor accents but will look beautiful in any environment.
